How many people struggle with balance which is also known as: Work-life.

It is difficult to give a specific number or percentage of people who have a terrible work-life balance as it can vary by country, occupation, industry, and individual circumstances.

However, there is evidence to suggest that work-life balance is a significant concern for many people regardless of industry.

For example, a 2019 survey conducted by Gallup found that 23% of full-time employees in the United States reported that they felt burned out at work very often or always, while an additional 44% reported feeling burned out sometimes.

A separate survey conducted by the American Psychological Association in 2020 found that 78% of adults in the United States reported experiencing at least one symptom of stress in the past year related to their work.

Similarly, a survey conducted by Eurofound in 2020 found that 30% of workers in the European Union reported difficulty balancing their work and personal life, with higher rates reported among women, those with caring responsibilities, and those in non-standard forms of employment.

Overall, while the exact number of people with a poor work-life balance may be difficult to estimate, there is evidence to suggest that it is a common concern for many workers around the world.

Work-life balance in the UK.

Closer to home, in the United Kingdom, work-life balance is also a significant concern for many people.

A UK survey conducted in 2020 by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that 58% of UK employees reported that their workload was too high, while 35% reported working longer hours than they would like.

The UK survey also found that work-related stress and mental health problems were the leading cause of long-term absence from work in the UK.

Similarly, a survey conducted by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in 2021 found that one in four UK workers reported working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic had led to them working longer hours, while one in five reported feeling burnt out or exhausted.

Overall, the evidence suggests that work-life balance is a significant concern for many workers in the UK, with high workloads, long hours, and work-related stress being common issues.

This matches anecdotal evidence that myself or my colleagues have noticed. Especially post lockdown.
