Calming Board Games.

Using board games to focus and engage outside of ourselves to prevent an internal focus of in-dwelling and worry are helpful to some people.

Sometimes we get too caught up in absorbing ourselves into our own heads and not seeking experiences which are outside of ourselves.

Focusing outside then allows us to absorb experiences in beyond our internal dialogue. Board games are one way of stimulating the senses.

A few examples of board games follow:

  1. Chess: Chess is a strategic game that requires focus and concentration, which can be a great way to unwind and clear your mind. The game can be played at a leisurely pace, allowing players to take their time and enjoy the process. Chess can also be used therapeutically.
  2. Scrabble: Scrabble is a word game that can be both challenging and relaxing. The game requires players to think creatively and come up with words, which can be a great way to stimulate the mind and improve cognitive function.
  3. Go: Go is a board game that originated in China and is known for its calming and meditative effects. The game is played on a grid and involves placing stones to surround and capture territory. The slow and deliberate pace of the game can be a great way to relax and focus the mind.
  4. Mahjong: Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China and is known for its calming and therapeutic effects. The game involves matching tiles to create pairs and sets, which can be a great way to stimulate the mind and improve cognitive function.
  5. Carcassonne: Carcassonne is a tile-based game that involves building a medieval landscape. The game is known for its relaxing and calming effects, as players can take their time and enjoy the process of building and creating.

Overall, the key to finding a calming board game is to choose one that you enjoy and that allows you to relax and unwind. Different people find different games calming, so it may take some experimentation to find the right one for you.
